Live Results for WWE Raw 16/1/12

Hey guys, Ashleyismyname is here once again filling in for 'Sensational Sequel' Sean to give you all the goings on from tonight's Monday Night Raw from Anaheim.

Short clip before we start to celebrate Martin Luther King Day.

The pyro is flying and Raw is on and opening tonight with Mick Foley coming down to the ring.

Before Foley talks, we are told by Cole & Lawler that on tap with have a tag match with the world champs CM Punk & Daniel Bryan taking on their No. 1 contenders for their titles, namely Dolph Ziggler & Mark Henry & a US title match with Zack Ryder scheduled to defend against Jack Swagger.

Foley says that last time he was there in a non-wrestling & nostalgic capacity but now he has one more dream, his 2 youngest kids to see him wrestle. So he's putting his name in the hat to be one of the 30 participants for the Royal Rumble. Vickie then comes out, screaming as ever, bringing out 'the next WWE Champion' Dolph Ziggler. Dolph thinks that Foley is wasting a place that somebody else could have. Foley clarifies the situation that he is in the Rumble to win it and not just participate in the competition. Dolph adds that when he is Champion at the Rumble and keeps the belt until Mania 28, it'll be a letdown for the crowd to see Ziggler vs. Foley as the main event.

Cult Of Personality hits and CM Punk is making his way out to the ring. Even Punk does a cheap pop for the Anaheim crowd, acknowledging that he and Foley are alike in that they are both unconventional, can speak for themselves and have earned everything for themselves. He also thinks that it would be cool to see Foley vs. Punk at Mania.

John Laurinitis comes out and says to Punk that he will be impartial as the referee in the WWE Title match at the Rumble. He then takes into consideration Foley's request to be in the Rumble and John says No. Then, after this answer, Vickie gets in Foley's face and starts laughing and cackling at him. The ending to that promo could have been much better, to be honest.

Air Boom are backstage and using their rematch clause for the Tag Titles against Primo & Epico, who won them last night in Oakland, next.

We are back and both teams are already in the ring with no introductions. That's not a good sign.

Match 1 - WWE Tag Team Championships - Primo & Epico (c) (w/Rosa Mendes) vs. Air Boom (Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne)

Epico starts out on top of Bourne, but manages to get the tag to Kofi. He hits his Boom Drop and Trouble In Paradise and tags to Bourne for Air Bourne. Epico attacks Kofi, which distracts Bourne and Primo capitalizes by bringing him off the top rope and hitting the backstabber to retain the titles for his team.

WIINERS & STILL WWE Tag Team Champions - Primo & Epico

We now see Otunga & Laurinitis backstage with Laurinitis being handed an envelope and says that 'you know who' is outside. Laurinitis says that the main event is now a 6-man tag match with Ziggler, Henry & Otunga taking on Punk, Bryan & 'you' ... the camera pans and it's Chris Jericho. Jericho just smiles, turns off the lights in the room and turns on his jacket.

Advert during the break for 'Sin City Smackdown' this Friday seemingly having a World Heavyweight Championship match with Daniel Bryan defending against Mark Henry.

We are back and that envelope was the doctor's report for Zack Ryder. We then cut to a backstage interview with Ryder & Eve. Ryder says he isn't fit to compete but refuses to forfeit the title so will fight tonight. Eve decides to accompany him to ringside for the match. We then see a promo covering the action from last week's Raw. Swagger apparently is getting the title shot due to a bad call by the referee last week in the Punk/Swagger match, with Swagger kicking out of a pin when the referee called for a pinfall.

Match 2 - WWE United States Championship - Zack Ryder (c) (w/Eve) vs. Jack Swagger (w/Vickie Guerrero)

Swagger is way too powerful for the injured Ryder and in just a few minutes Swagger hits his gutwrench Powerbomb on the injured ribs & Swagger gets the pinfall to win the belt.

WINNER & NEW WWE United States Champion - Jack Swagger

We come back from break and Laurinitis just opened the envelope and has apologized to Ryder for not reading it quicker. Eve was not happy at this but John asked her to 'shut her mouth'.

Perez Hilton is out as the special guest ring announcer for the Divas match next.

Match 3 - Kelly Kelly & Alicia Fox vs. The Bella Twins

Within 30 seconds to a minute, the Bellas are going for Twin Magic but Perez stops it. Kelly rolls up one of the Bellas and Kelly gets the win... Alicia did nothing. Wow.

WINNERS - Kelly Kelly & Alicia Fox

Bellas were unhappy at Perez but Kelly & Fox saw them off. That was a waste of typing.

Royal Rumble flashback showcases 1992 and - IT'S NOT FAIR TO FLAIR!!! (With A Tear In My Eye)

R-Truth is making his way to the ring but before he can even speak, Wade Barrett interrupts him, saying he will win the Rumble and pleased that the 'old git' Foley is not in the match. Truth starts with a mock English accent and asks why he is so sad when they're right next to Disneyland. Truth then shows his holiday snaps with Mickie & Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck (quack quack) and finally Pinocchio. Pinocchio apparently said that Wade won the Rumble which made his nose grow. The way WWE did it though was... questionable. Even Truth said 'that may not even be PG!!'

Miz then attacked Truth from behind and Wade helped as well. Sheamus then ran down to help, prompting Smackdown GM Teddy Long to come out and set up an over the top rope match.

Match 4 - Over The Top Rope Battle Royal - Wade Barrett vs. The Miz vs. Sheamus vs. R-Truth

Barrett is eliminated early and a few minutes later, Sheamus attempts to eliminate Miz but Truth lifts Sheamus over the ropes and eliminated both guys to win the match.

WINNER - R-Truth

Backstage and Cena is pissed at Laurinitis for Ryder getting stuffed in his match earlier. Laurinitis acknowledges this as a mistake and sets up both Kane vs. Cena at the Royal Rumble AND Cena to 'take out his anger & frustration' on Swagger in a match next.

Match 5 - Jack Swagger (w/Vickie Guerrero) vs. John Cena

The match hasn't even started yet and Cena is beating the crap out of Swagger. Swagger is placed on the bottom ring steps and Cena is about to crush him with the top part until Kane stage pyro and music hits. Kane appears on screen praising his anger and that by the Rumble in 2 weeks, Cena will have 'embraced the hate' and Kane sets off the ring pyro... 2 seconds after he did the action. Good work WWE pyro man.

NO CONTEST

We are back from break and Brodus is on his way out to the ring with his 'standard' entrance.

Match 6 - Brodus Clay vs. JTG (No entrance for JTG)

Typical squash match for Clay. Apparently his finisher is called the Funkin' or something like it. Wow. Just wow.

WINNER - Brodus Clay

Daniel Bryan is apparently going to update everyone on how AJ is after last week's bump on Smackdown.

We're back and Cole is saying that the AJ incident wasn't an accident, with Lawler disagreeing. Anyway, this prompts a recap of Smackdown.

Bryan says that Big Show isn't a big friendly giant but a fraud and that he wasn't sorry for injuring AJ. He says that he shouldn't turn up on Friday and that his match against Henry will be dedicated to AJ. Bryan goes down to the ring and the 6-man tag match is on it's way.

Jericho comes out next in his standard light up jacket and the fans are mixed still with some cheering and some booing. We go to break with Jericho high-fiveing the fans at ringside.

We're back and Henry, Ziggler & Otunga are already in ring with Jericho still celebrating with the fans. Punk makes his entrance and the main event is underway.

Match 7 - Dolph Zigger, Mark Henry & David Otunga vs. CM Punk, Daniel Bryan & Chris Jericho

It's worth noting for the opening of the match that Jericho is not reacting to or acknowledging Punk... Sowing the seeds it seems.

Team Ziggler has the upper hand on both Bryan & Punk, until Otunga gets hit with a Macho Elbow from Punk. Punk tags in Jericho, Jericho celebrates by going round the ring taunting 'YEAH!!' with the crowd, then tags in Bryan and Jericho walks out on the match as we go to break. Now the Jericho thing is beginning to make sense to me.

We're back from the break and soon after Henry goes after Bryan and they're gone from ringside. Seems CM Punk is on his own... BUT WAIT!!!! Mick Foley comes out and says he's got the word from Laurinitis to be in the match, gets tagged in and hits the leg corner smash & DDT on Otunga, he then bring out Socko, applies the Mandible Claw on Otunga and the referee calls for the bell.

WINNERS - CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, (Chris Jericho) & Mick Foley

John Laurinitis comes out and says that Foley wasn't approved to be in the match so the decision is reversed.

WINNERS - Dolph Ziggler, Mark Henry & David Otunga

CM Punk then proceeds to shoot on John and how he's sure he'll screw him over at the Rumble, but that Punk will always be better than him because of John having the looks but not the talent like his brother from the Road Warriors and john being road kill (not the ECW wrestler by the way). Punk leaves with the belt held aloft.

Foley then calls Laurinitis a kiss-ass and asks him whether he will screw Punk over. Laurinitis snaps and says of course he will because of all the bullying and treatment he's received over the last few months. He takes out his anger by hitting Foley with the mic and walks out to finish Raw.

So what will happen next week? Will Cena succumb to embracing the hate? Will Foley be let into the Royal Rumble? Will Laurinitis face any repurcussions for his actions this week? And will Jericho finally actually do something? Find out next week with Sean coming back to give you all the news... oh and BTW, if you tell Sean that I did this this week then.... SILENCE!!! ... I KEEL YOU!!!!!

Ashley Out!!!!!!!! (P.S. - Sean, hope Jeff Dunham was a great well-earned day off for you)

Update On THQ/WWE Video Games

Following reports saying THQ had cancelled its 2014 release schedule to save money and that they were looking to sell the company. They issued the following statement last night, mentioning WWE '12:

"THQ has not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO. As part of the ongoing review of our business, we have made decisions to ensure that the company is strategically addressing the most attractive markets. As we have previously announced, we have dramatically reduced our commitment to the kids' boxed games sector which leads to a significantly more focused release schedule moving forward. Our slate for calendar 2012 and beyond is focused on high-quality core games and continues to build our digital platform and business. We are excited for our pipeline of original and high-quality content along with our relationships with some of the best talent in the industry.

Additionally, we are thrilled with the great performance of Saints Row: The Third, which on a like for like period in North America has tripled in sell-through from Saints Row 2. In addition, WWE ’12’s worldwide sell-through sales are up almost 40% year-over-year for the same sales period with fewer platforms. According to NPD, for the month of December and the 2011 year, THQ was the #5 publisher overall, #4 third party, with reported sell through growing over 18% in a market that was down almost 6%. And coming up next, we have two great titles for the first half of the year including UFC Undisputed 3 and Darksiders 2."
