TV Rating Breakdown For WWE Raw 8/15/11

The August 15th edition of WWE RAW did a 3.27 cable rating and 5.04 million viewers. In comparison, the New York Jets vs. Houston Texans NFL preseason game did a 3.71 rating with 4.97 million viewers. RAW this week was the sixth highest rated show on cable for the night.

What's not good about this week's ratings are that the second hour plus the overrun averaged 380,000 less viewers than the first hour. RAW's second hour normally does better since viewers know to tune in at 10pm and 11pm for the main event. Here is the segment breakdown.

The opener with Triple H and then Alberto Del Rio did a 3.73 rating, the high point of this week's show. R-Truth vs. John Morrison in the Falls Count Anywhere match lost 817,000 viewers - one of the worst declines of any match all year.

The Miz's Subway segment gained 225,000 viewers while Kelly Kelly & Eve Torres vs. The Bella Twins lost 52,000 viewers. Kevin Nash's interview and segment with CM Punk gained 556,000 viewers in the 10pm slot, which is about average.

Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger lost 619,000 viewers, which is worse than usual. Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne vs. David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty lost another 412,000 viewers. The main event for the WWE Title with Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio gained 763,000 viewers, bringing the overrun to a 3.41 rating.

Backstage Reaction To Kevin Nash/CM Punk On Raw

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

All the younger WWE talents were backstage at RAW watching the segment with CM Punk and Kevin Nash on monitors. Punk is seen as a kind of hero to some of the younger guys because he puts them over and speaks for them since they can't say what he gets away with saying. Nash is in great shape but with his history of knee operations, he wasn't walking very well. The feeling is that a CM Punk vs. Kevin Nash match won't be too pretty

Source:PWInsider.com

Kevin Nash is expected to be at this coming Monday's RAW and will be a regular character on WWE TV going forward. The idea behind Punk and Nash feuding is to give Punk a top name that would put him over.

Regarding their segment on Monday's RAW, the feeling backstage was that Punk got the better of Nash and Nash's comebacks were too inside and outdated compared to Punk's.

Since Nash didn't get that big of a reaction when he came out on RAW, there was talk that they need to do a better job of explaining on TV to the current generation of fans who Nash is.

Heat On Be A Star Alliance For Jerry Lawler Comments About Vickie Guerrero's Weight

As seen on Raw the past few months, Jerry "The King" Lawler has been making fun of Vickie Guerrero's weight on the announce table and this appears to have upset Lisa Wright, who is the program director of the national non-profit organization Council for Unity, who sent the following letter to the Be A Star Alliance.

I recently received an e-mail regarding your alliance with the WWE. The e-mail pointed out the "fat jokes" about Vickie Guerrero. Wrestling as I perceive it consists of name calling and threats culminating in violence to settle conflicts. How does this fit with your mission to `Show Tolerance and Respect?' Are you saying this behavior is alright for entertainment value? As an employee of a member organization listed on your website, your questionable judgment reflects poorly, not only on you, but on all the organizations listed there.

"As an organization whose mission is to prevent violence and bullying, we must be careful who we partner with and what messages that partnership sends. As we look for funding, ways to market our mission, and new partnerships, we must remain aware of the cultural forces that impact those that we serve. Furthermore, we must be sensitive not to promote the very negative behaviors that we have spent our professional lives trying to prevent. I fail to see how an alliance with the WWE will do that. We must be aware that in our business, as in life, actions speak louder than words. The WWE may, in principal, be against bullying and the violence that so often accompanies it, however, the very nature of the business is not conducive to a culture of inclusion and peace that we here at the Council for Unity seek to create. To that end, we respectfully request the removal or our organization from your web site."
